Dave Bradburn
Several weeks ago I was contacted out of the blue by HMRC to inform me that one of their inspectors wished to pay me a visit to perform a VAT inspection. This is the first time I’d had HMRC visit in ten years of trading and, although I knew everything was in order, at the point that you know you’re being investigated you are naturally concerned that they’ll uncover a costly error somewhere along the way.
Fortunately, I knew that the Tax Investigation Insurance policy that I have with The Buxton Partnership meant that my accountant David Buxton, would be alongside me. David spoke to HMRC to arrange the visit at his premises, he reassured me about the nature and scope of the visit, and advised what I needed to do. We met on the morning of the visit and ran through everything. The time he set aside meant that I was calm and well informed when the HMRC Inspector arrived.
The Investigation went very smoothly and the Inspector had actually left by midday. However, the key thing is that David’s advice, expertise and support meant that something that might otherwise have been a stressful experience for me was turned into a minor inconvenience. If you want the reassurance that you would feel the same if HMRC decide it’s your turn for a visit, speak to The Buxton Partnership. And if you haven’t already done so, take out an insurance policy so that you know that you can rely on that level of support.
